

Meet Brooke

Brooke Wickman grew up near Wausaukee, Wisconsin. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in physical education with an emphasis in health and human performance. During her bachelor's education, she completed an exercise physiology clinical internship in cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and therapeutics.

Brooke continued her education at San Diego State University. She earned her dual masters of science in nutritional sciences and exercise physiology. During this graduate training, she completed the didactic program in dietetics. Brooke served as a graduate student research assistant in both physiology and nutrition labs, and also worked as the Exercise & Nutritional Sciences assistant academic advisor.
Brooke matched to the Minneapolis Veterans Affairs Health Care System dietetic internship for her supervised practice training before becoming a registered dietitian. As a dietetic intern, she developed and taught nutrition assessment curriculum to first-year medical students.
Brooke began her doctoral training at the University of California, Davis in 2019. She works with Dr. Francene Steinberg on the implementation and effectiveness of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension (DASH) diet for outpatient heart failure management. She is working towards a career in academia as a nutrition clinician scientist. Brooke's research interests include nutrition for cardiovascular disease prevention and management, patient engagement, clinical trials, clinical comparative effectiveness research, precision medicine, inpatient care, dietetics education, interdisciplinary health care education, implementation science, delivery science, and health systems science.
